The name of the blog

Some may wonder at the name of this blog, others may not.

I don't think it's surprising that a self described Satan worshiper would be a little reluctant broadcasting this topic in a public manner.  Lets face it!  Satanists who subscribe to the Judeo-Christian ideologies are rare even among satanists!  And one could imagine what a few unruly atheists would have to say if they got a wind of this.  What of the Christians? I bet a good number of the ones who stumble on this would just get a kick out of it.

So what are some of the questions I ask myself?  Well...

Do I really want to give up my sins and my attachments and turn to God?  Would it be worth it?  What do people get out of it anyway?  I've been sitting at church on Sunday's wondering why on earth I'm sitting there in the first place.

I guess time will tell.

I will only post every week or so.  Much like everyone else I have a job, and a family, and other obligations... But I did want to get this thing off to a good start and post a few introduction posts.  Either Friday or Monday I'll start off with my first question and I hope one or two people will drop in to comment.

Thanks!

What I hope to gain.

Through this blog I hope to tap others experience and insight.

Whether you are atheist or agnostic, Baptist, Lutheran or Catholic, or anything really, I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas. So long as your comments are constructive of course. I hope this blog will help me catalog my journey so in a year or so, I can look back and see if any progress has been made.

I do intend to solicit opinions from Christian forums, blogs and whoever else I may come across. I understand online opinions aren't the best, but there have been a few gems out there and it is my goal to attract a few of them to help me on my way.

I am also receptive to book suggestions. Below I've listed just a few of the books I've read so far.

The Case for Christ
by Lee Strobel
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Catholic and Christian by Alan Schreck
The Shape of Catholic Theology by Aiden Nichols
The Three Conversions in the Spiritual Life by Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange
Theology and Sanity by Frank Sheed
The Confessions of St. Augustine
Catechism of the Catholic Church

They do have a Catholic slant but that is because most of them were suggested by the priest I mentioned in my first post, An Introduction. This shouldn't stop you from making a suggestion though!

An Introduction

This is my first blog. I'm no writer so I hope that whoever reads this will cut me a little slack.

Before I get to the reason behind this blog I'd like to say a few things about myself so that the reader can understand my perspective. I hope this will help you, help me.

So let's get started!

Have you ever met someone who knew, when they were 7 or 8, exactly what they wanted to do with their life? Maybe they wanted to be a firefighter, a police officer, a engineer, a biologist, or a priest. Well this story starts off a little like that - I wanted to make microchips and I wanted to serve Satan.

Today I do both.

Now where did I hear about Satan? Well church of course! And I have always hedged my bets that God, Satan, Heaven and Hell were precisely what I was taught in the classes I took at a Catholic church down in south central Florida. This means I've been a diabolist for a long time. But that doesn't mean I wear all black or that I'm particularly superstitious either. (I don't believe in magic or spells guys, sorry!)

Now lets jump ahead 20+ years.

About 3 or 4 years ago I became intensely curious about why so many people were attracted to God. So I picked up a few books, surfed a few web pages, and eventually settled on a priest I thought I could confide in. I chose to talk to a Catholic priest because I already held so many of the same beliefs Catholics do and he has been a great deal of help to me so far.

This priest has a lot of lofty ideals. So 6 months ago I went out on a limb and tried to introduce myself to the culture. (Meaning I went to Mass and spoke to people, even enrolled in RCIA, not that I told them I was a satanist.) I just wanted to see if anyone lived up to what I'd been hearing for years now from this priest. Unfortunately, I found exactly what I encountered every day of my life to this point. That's to say, I didn't find much at all. I found a lot of disinterested people who knew less about their faith then I do. That was fairly discouraging. How are they going to help me find the answers to my questions when they haven't bothered asking the questions themselves!

And so I come to you!
